Painting Doors and Windows:

Painting doors and windows could be considered the accent on the room that adds the detail of a well planned design. Often the color of the paint used on doors and windows serves as an accent to the room color. A few factors to make painting doors and windows a beautiful inclusion to the room décor should be considered.

First, the condition of the windows, window frames, sills and panes should be addressed. Check to be sure that the windows properly seal when closed and that the metal or wood frame remains sturdy. If panes are damaged this would be an excellent opportunity to replace them. If other damage exists in relation to the windows, this is the time to make repairs prior to painting. This inspection procedure is also important for the doors in your home. Be sure that they are properly hung, close securely and that any damaged hardware is taken care of prior to commencing with the painting job.

Second, select a paint color for the doors and windows that complementary to the wall paint and room décor. The color should enhance the beauty of the room, not distract from it. After the color has been selected, the type of paint needed should then be considered. While oil paints will last longer than latex paints, windows and doors that are subjected to consistent water should receive a latex paint. Water may have adverse affects on surfaces painted with oil based paint, and therefore, this is an important consideration when selecting paint.

Third, painter’s tape should be used to mask off areas around the doors and windows, to include the windowpanes of glass areas of the window. Since many windows are difficult to paint because of the intricacies of the frame design, masking may take time but it allowed you to paint without consistent worries of the paint adhering to other areas.

Finally, the paint should be applied, being sure to apply the paint evenly throughout the surface.
